Daylight Saving Time

It's Time to Spring Forward...

Few people are aware of the true reason and history behind Daylight Saving Time. We like to think of Spring as a time to Spring Ahead and save yourself some valuable time around the home. So what really happens when you loose an hour this weekend, can you make it up?

Making Up for Lost Time

Spring is a great time to a clear the clutter and clean out the closets, cupboards and garage that are bursting at the seams this time of year causing you unnecessary grief and wasted time as you dig for what you are looking for and step over to make your way outside and around the house. Taking just 20 minutes of dedicated time in each of these areas will allow you to easily clear out the cobwebs and anything you may not have used in the past few months.

Garage-

It's likely your garage has not been the same since you pulled down the holiday decorations- after-all, most us us find we have chosen not to keep and store all of the holiday decor we once had on display. Now is the time to clear out and re-label the boxes. Simple organization such as re-labeling your boxes and totes will save you time in the future. Making sure you have a sturdy shelf to organize your totes on will help extend the life of your totes and prevent storage directly on the floor; allowing for a quick hose down or blow out. Hosing and blowing out the garage will save you valuable time inside the house, as you will no longer be tracking in the dust and dirt built-up from the garage.

Cupboards-

The cupboard that stores the Tupperware seems to be a place where valuable time can be saved.  A quick organization of this space will allow you to save time when it comes to meal prep and storage. Knowing where your lids and bottoms are will make storage of dinner time leftovers a snap, and will save you time any money; as now lunch is ready and it won't be necessary to run through the drive through on a busy lunch hour. Many families are substituting the plastic containers with mason jars, and are prepping a full week's worth of salads in a jar for easy grab and go meals.

Closets-

You may have packed on a few pounds and intend on making it to the gym (after-all it was your Top New Year's Resolution) but the reality of it is, you will likely not fit into those jeans that have been folded in the back of the closet for years, and how likely is it that you will really want to wear years/seasons old styles when/if you can fit back into them? It's time to donate them and move on. Your closet will thank you for the space you just opened up, allowing you to hangup more of your clothes, saving you valuable time from having to iron out fold marks.

And while you are at it, have the kids help clean out their drawers, after-all everyone at Christmas noticed how they are growing and you have noticed their pants are now high-waters. Removing clothes from their drawers will allow them to close again, and save you time from excess laundry that ends up on the floor when they realize they can't continue wearing clothes that are too small.

De-cluttering

De-cluttering can save you time and money, especially when it comes time to sell your home. We often call the De-cluttering process while preparing your home for sale, the staging process. Staging your home for sale, includes removing unnecessary personal items, it helps highlight the home's natural features and beauty and helps you yeild a higher return on the sale of your home. Staging allows the buyer to clearly see the space they have to work with, and can better help a buyer vision placement of their own furniture and personal items.

Help your home shine and it will sell faster and for a higher price. Clean, uncluttered homes, priced well, sell faster than homes overpriced or that don't show well. Statistics indicate the longer your home is on the market, the lower price it will sell for. You have the highest impact in the market when you first list your home for sale. You really can make up for lost time by doing a little bit of Spring cleaning before you list your home for sale.
