NV Energy welcomes interest in consumer- generated electricity? NO , Really... They welcome your money!





Politics and Solar Power Are Costing You More!

With the recent December 22nd Public Utilities Commission (PUC) decision and the signing of Senate Bill No. 374 it will actually cost solar customers more for electricity than those customers without solar!  In our recent blog, Politics and Solar Power are Costing You More, we gave you some stats and some recommendations to follow the money! Who owns the sun? Buffet does! And it's not right!

What will the Residential Renewable Tax Credit offered by the Government do for you? Likely not enough to see a big benefit. A recent Las Vegas Sun article points out homeowners will never be able to recuperate the cost of the solar panels saying "Our system will never pay for itself." The bait and switch is especially tough on homeowners who purchased solar before the PUC decision and rate increase. These Net Metered Customers (NEM Customers) are outraged and so are we!


Thomas Edison once said... "I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that." Well Tom, we may have to, if politicians don't get out of the way!

This is Crazy!

The Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted to kill solar power here in Nevada! With so many bright days in Nevada, there is no place better to have solar power! With an average of 294 sunny days a year, Nevada is missing out on a BIG opportunity to contribute to Green Energy!

Why would they vote to kill it? Part of what makes this so crazy is two of the PUC members are lobbyist for NV Energy. NV Energy has a monopoly on power in Nevada and is owned Warren Buffet! It gets crazier... Warren Buffet donates to Democratic causes, such as Green Energy on the Democratic side of house, but with a mostly Republican government in Nevada, you have to ask "Why would Republicans kill a Green Energy Project?" Follow the Money! This is Outrageous!

 

This is old school Nevada politics at its worst!


Over 12,000 people in Nevada, who have opted for solar panels on their homes, will pay dramatically more for energy than those with out panels! This does not make since! There were over 3,700 solar installs in Vegas in 2015, and over 5,000 since 2009. This represents less than 2% of rooftops in Las Vegas, imagine the possibilities of Nevada being a Green Energy Contributor if it only made since for the homeowners to have it  installed! And what about those homeowners who were expecting what they were promised? Will they be "grandfathered in"? It does not look like it!

Warren Buffet once said "Honesty is a very expensive gift, don't expect it from cheap people."  Makes you wonder a bit doesn't it! Solar customers are not looking for a gift, they are simply looking to better the environment and for a return on what they have invested in.

Is your Las Vegas Home Value Increasing?

Sometimes it is hard to know if you should sell, upgrade or remodel, we have done our best to help you make the decision that is bet for you and have a video that addresses your questions. Each month home value statistics change in Las Vegas and understanding your home value is important. Last month we showed November 2014 vs November 2015, today we bring you December stats! Below are two different maps that appear to be very similar when you first look at them.  And that's because the maps are broken down by Las Vegas area zip codes and color coded to show boundaries. The difference is the first map shows home value appreciation for Single Family Homes Valued at $400,000.000 plus while the second map shows Las Vegas Home value appreciation for Single Family Homes Valued less than $399,999.00. Different parts of town are appreciating at different rates and differently in different price ranges. The map compares December 2014 vs December 2015.

Keep in mind little change shows a very stable market. A negative percentage shows a decline year over year, but since real estate is a local market, and values have climbed in the past few years its somewhat normal to see some variation. The greater Las Vegas area has less than a 30% count of homes that are still underwater, much different than in years past and we still see a decreasing trend. There is a lot of pricing competition for new homes. The median home value in Las Vegas currently is $220,000.00
